Some platforms hand the leader a title like “King of the Room,” a colored username, or a small crown icon; others just pin the top three names in a sidebar. How room leaderboards actually work
Three details decide who lands on top:
- The reset window. A leaderboard might cover just the current session, or roll up daily, weekly and monthly totals side by side. Fast solo rooms often reset every show; couple rooms frequently run monthly boards so regulars can build a lead over weeks.

YouTube announced a Live Leaderboard for Top Fans on July 1, 2025, and it is now documented in YouTube’s Help Center across desktop, Android and iOS: a crown icon opens a ranking of the top 50 viewers by experience points earned through chatting, Super Chats, Super Stickers and gifts, and the top three get a badge next to their name that is reassigned in real time and vanishes when the stream ends. It is limited to viewers 18 and older and can be switched off. Twitch expanded its own recognition system in August 2026, raising collector-badge thresholds — a gifted-sub badge can now require up to 100 gifted subs and a watch-time badge up to 24 hours — while still crowning the top Bits and top Subs contributors as “Conductors” on an active Hype Train. Cam platforms were running tipper leaderboards years before either of these; the rest of the industry caught up.
Why sites and models use them
It is gamification, and the numbers explain the appeal. The live-streaming market is projected at roughly $92.8 billion in 2026 and is growing more than 23% a year through 2033, with interactive and gamified formats the fastest-growing segment and in-app tipping converting at above 16% on leading creator channels. A visible leaderboard turns tipping into a friendly contest: the model thanks the current leader by name, regulars nudge each other for the position, and a quiet room gets a reason to participate. - You never have to compete. Browsing the female, male and couple rooms is free, and small tips still get a thank-you. The leaderboard is optional.
- If you do want the spot, check the reset window first so you are not chasing a monthly total on your first night. Industry engagement data shows regulars tip most heavily after 30–60 minutes in a room, so presence matters as much as size.
